After Friday’s 27-21 home loss to San Jose State, Eastern Michigan must hit the road to face a new team of Spartans.
EMU (1-1 overall, 1-0 MAC) stays in the Mitten for a third game in a row as it prepares for its first of two Big Ten games. On Saturday, EMU will face Michigan State (1-0), which beat Toledo 30-20 on Friday, too. After a weekend where the nation saw UMass beat Rutgers 37-21 and Western Michigan “beat” Michigan 12-13, people want to see the MAC have another upset over the Big Ten.
Can EMU be the next upset on the list?

O-LINE: There's no certainty that EMU will run out the same starting five as it did the last two weeks. RG Cole Dellinger left Friday’s game with a left leg injury and did not return (replaced by Dennis Strey Jr.). In the team’s week-opening press conference, Chris Creighton said “hopefully you can get still get him back… It’s so early in the week, it’s hard to know.”
For what it’s worth, Dellinger wasn’t immobile on the sideline minutes after he was helped off the field.
O-LINE PT. 2: McMillan, not because of injury, was replaced by Samuel Adjin Friday.
TE FIRST START: EMU ran a lot of 12 personnel against San Jose (1 RB, 2 TE), and TE Tanner Lemaster notched his career start with the team for it.

DEFENSE
Notes:
STARTER?: The official game notes has DB Juan Salas as a starter against San Jose State. However, LB Barry Manning was actually on the field to start the game, not Salas. Salas did play as early as his unit’s second series of the night, and he helped create an interception in the first half. EMU’s notes say otherwise, but my notes will reflect Manning as the starter.
BARRY MANNING DOUBTFUL: Manning left Friday’s game right before San Jose’s offense took the field for its first touchdown drive. Manning made the tackle on EMU’s punt late in the second quarter, got up awkwardly and went straight to the injury tent. Said Creighton Monday: “It doesn’t look good for him… It was not great news for Barry.”
RETURN, AND DRESSED: CB Caleb Coley returned to action Friday after he missed the season opener to injury. DE Hector Gonzalez dressed for, but did not play against San Jose.
